The northern tower is the southern tower's pair, raised in the same campaign of 1415 and for the same reason. Between them the two forward posts let the defenders cross their fire over the whole approach, so that no stretch of the moat could be worked at in safety.

Building in pairs is the signature of the 1415 rebuilding. Jakam was not repairing a fortress; he was answering, point by point, the way Timur had taken it.
